2008年の4月、NvidiaのGPUを利用した動画エンコードソフトで、驚異的なエンコード速度をデモンストレーションしたElemental Technologies社が、この技術を使用した動画エンコードソフト「Badaboom™」および、「Badaboom™ pro」を8月にリリースするようです。

これによると、
2時間分の動画を同様に変換した場合、CPUのみでは5～7時間程度かかるが、64SPのGeForce 8800Mでは56分、128SPのGeForce 8800 GTS(512MB)では23分で処理できる
そうです。
動画のエンコード速度は、CPUをパワーアップしても数％～数十％しか改善しない事が多く、これは驚異的な速度と言えるでしょう。
8月にリリースされるソフトは、以下のような特徴があるようです。

- Input resolutions supported - Standard definition (720×480p) and below
- Output video formats supported - H.264 (MP4) Baseline Profile
- Output audio formats - AAC
- Output resolutions supported - Standard definition(720×480p) and below, fixed GUI resolutions supported
- Availability - Badaboom will be available in August from the www.badaboomit.com website
- Hardware compatibility - Badaboom is compatible with all CUDA enabled NVIDIA GPUs which are described on the NVIDIA site here http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_learn_products.html
- Software compatibility - Badaboom supports Microsoft Windows software only. Windows Vista 32, Windows Vista 64 and Windows XP 32 are supported
- Price - final pricing has not yet been determined
これは、通常版の仕様です。
様々なフォーマットの動画ファイルに対応しますが、入力解像度は720x480以下、出力は、H.264(MP4)+AACで、解像度は720x480以下に対応するようです。
最終価格は未定のようですが、恐らく有料になるのでしょう。
ちなみに、pro版というものもリリースされるそうで、こちらは、HD解像度での入出力が可能なようです。
出力がSDだとしても、HD解像度のソースをエンコードする場合、プロ版が必要ということのようです。
入力に関しては、解像度の制限をなくして欲しいものです・・・。
対応するNvidiaのGPUは、CUDAに対応していれば良いようで、リストは、
